Description
Katoomba is an endless action game set against the beautiful Katoomba Mountains. The world does not know why poison drops are raining down on Katoomba. Your only defence is to swipe with your "tails" and tap with your "booms" to keep the poisoned drops from hitting the ground. Don't hit any pure drops, as the world needs all of them to survive.
Every day that passes in the game brings a new progressively harder season. At the end of every year is a bonus level where you find out that aliens might be playing a role in poisoning the drops. Play hard enough and you can capture an alien and use them to help you defend Katoomba.
History
Katoomba is a project of passion done completely by the Marchiori Family. A father son team of Rob and Milo Marchiori started the game as a way to learn how to develop games. The idea, original concept and art is almost exclusively done by Milo. Dad picked up much of the coding as Milo was busier with school, but we always came back together and worked on all aspects of the game.
Initially we started a game called "Raindrops" in Apple's Sprit Kit coded in Objective C but quickly did a bottom up re-write in Swift. As our ideas expanded, we discovered Unity and never looked back. We completely replatformed the game in Unity and fundamentally changed the concept of the game to go well beyond the basic play of Raindrops. We added a story line and beautiful concept art and completely replatformed and recreated all assets in a fully 3D environment.
Milo was 14 when we started development and we picked it up when time allowed. We have had a bit of help along the way from our primary testers and two other siblings Quentin and Noa. And my wife Michelle let it all happen!
